The seat tube is the tube that your seat post goes into. You want to find one that is more upright than one you would find on a regular bike. This positions your body more forward and allows you to become more aerodynamic.
What is the Frame Made of?
There are many different materials that triathlon bikes are made of. They include aluminum, steel, carbon fiber, titanium, and beam.
- Aluminum is very lightweight. But, it does shake the rider up more.
- Steel is heavier (not by much) but can be much stronger and more comfortable for long rides.
- Titanium offers benefits that are a mix of the first two. It is lighter than steel but offers a comfortable ride much like steel does.
- Beam is a newer composite material. It is aluminum under either an aluminum or carbon fiber beam. This composite provides the added benefit of reducing shock from the road.
